What are the important factors of learning Spanish? I, recently, watched a Spanish movie in our local (India) TV channel. I was enchanted by the language. How many Spanish words should I be learning a day? I saw this advertisement for a Spanish learning program that boasted it's students could learn 200 words a day. What is the best Latin-Spanish home learning program? I have a great desire to learn Spanish (Latin-America). I looked at Rosetta Stone, but do not like what I read on Amazon about it. I would like to learn while driving to/from work and have computer software for learning at home. Does anyone have any experience with a good program (I heard Rocket might be good, looking for confirmation or a better program), thanks!
When learning Spanish how do you understand when they talk so fast like a lawnmower? I really want to learn this language but I'm having a hard time. I know how to pronounce the words perfectly and I can even read the words and understand them when said one at a time; however, when someone starts talking Spanish to me in full sentences it just sounds like a huge big blur and I can't understand nothing. It sounds like a lawnmower.

Is Rosetta Stone good for learning Spanish? I'm taking Spanish in college, but my teacher sucks at teaching. I wanted to know if the Rosetta Stone would be a good way of learning so I can pass and get my college credits. I really want to learn Spanish, but my teacher isn't a very good teacher, he just has us singing these stupid songs in Spanish and then he starts talking to us in Spanish but he never says what the hell he is saying. I can't learn and pass unless this idiot translates. So is the Rosetta Stone good or not?
Is Spanish Immersion Elementary school good for overall learning? Although I'm confident that it would be a great way for my child to learn Spanish, I'd like to hear input from parents whose children have attended Spanish Immersion elementary schools: Have they learned/tested well in other subject areas like reading (English), science, history, etc? Overall positive experience, or trade-off for Spanish success?
What are some alternative ways to learning spanish? i already study spanish formally via books, and software, but I'm interested in new ways to learn through out the day when I'm not at home. My mother suggested watching spanish soaps, but I lose interest quickly. Thanks. Reminder: I'm not interested in websites. Like I said, I'm looking for ideas for when I'm not home. Meaning, I won't be around a computer.
Are there any good computer programs out there on learning spanish? Are there any computer programs (either on a cd I can buy at a store like Best Buy, or something than I can download and pay money for) on learning spanish for beginning/ intermediate spanish speakers? I know a little bit, I took some classes in high school, but I am no where near fluent at it. I'm gonna be a teacher soon and I figured it would be a good idea to learn spanish, in today's age! thanks
What book would you recommend as an introductory text for learning Spanish? I plan to learn Spanish, all by myself, and I am looking for books suitable for that. Of course I will try to use multimedia such as TV and newspapers to practice, but I need a book that will present Spanish (and that assumes I am not at all familiar with the language) in a systematic way, with a lot of examples and practice. I would prefer also a book with a lot of vocab word lists and grammar rules. Thank You :)

Will learning Spanish and Italian at the same time continue to be easy or eventually confusing? I love Spanish and Italian. My mother has been teaching me some Spanish as well as some close friends. The thing that makes Italian easy for me is its similarities with Spanish ( for instance mi chiamo is easy to remember because it sounds like me llamo). Once I get further into Spanish and Italian though, will continue to not confuse me or will it be just too much? Personal experiences learning Spanish and Italian at once? Thanks.
How should I go about learning Spanish? I already know Italian and I'd like to move onto a more useful language. (I live in America.) Any sites in particular that are good? I kinda like the interactivity of Rosetta Stone, but the price tag is insane, so I'm forgetting that. Any interactive free sites to learn Spanish?
What would be a good addition to learning Spanish with Rosetta Stone? I'm looking for something else to help me learn Spanish. I'm almost finished with lesson 2 and I must say that my Spanish has improved dramatically from where it was before which was only knowing a few words and phrases. I do really well at retaining the knowledge but I feel like I need to be quizzed and tested or something to keep me sharp.

I'm learning Spanish, does anyone know a good site to help me learn Spanish? My in-laws are from El Paso, TX and I would love to learn for my daughter, myself and my husband's grandma. I would love to learn Spanish that is spoken around here, not the Spanish that was learned by someone or from text books, which I have found tends to be very different than what my in-laws speak. Any suggestions of sites I can use for reference when I don't have a lesson with my husband? Please only reply if you have a real answer Gracias!
How much transfer is there in learning Spanish with a sound knowledge of French? Obviously it's a different language that will still take time to learn, but can anyone give me some idea as to how much of a "low-hanging fruit" Spanish becomes when one knows French quite well? I'm mainly just after a rough idea, as it's obviously impossible to give an "exact" answer, whatever that might be. Thanks for any answers.
I'm learning Spanish and need some music to help me learn? Suggestions? I learn languages well by listening to music and then translating it word-for-word. I would like some suggestions for some Spanish songs that are a little slower, but maybe have a lot of lyrics. Or even websites that have good, proper spanish/english translations for songs. I HATE using translators, they're hard to understand. Any Spanish bands and/or songs would be helpful and any lyrics based website that has good translations for Spanish lyrics to English would be awesome too. :) Thank you!
What programs are there for learning spanish? I've heard of rosetta stone but it costs way to much, Iam looking to learn spanish as I will be going there at the end of the year and would like to know some before I leave. Don;t mind paying for it, would just prefer it to be cheaper
So what is the difference in Americans learing Spanish to sell to Mexicans and the rest of the world learning? English to sell to the US? People seem to think that someone is telling them they must learn Spanish to speak to the hispanic community, but when has anyone ever asked you to learn? Hey angry POD, I am speaking English. Not just selling to Mexico, but to spanish-speakers in the US. grooming, you can choose not to put things in Spanish, just dont sell you stuff, your choice. Alll dialects of Spanish understand one another well. Dont act like if you spoke Mexican Spanish, people from Cuba would not understand you, they would and do, ask my Cuban friend. Zoe, I am not Hispanic, I never claimed to be. My husband and I help Mexico by taking care of his parents, bring things to his aunts, uncles, friends. I take letters and packages to and from Mexico to let friends communicate with their families. In my house in Mexico, we house his Mom, Dad, Sister, Neice and Nephew. It's a pretty big place. We have a bathroom with shower, something that they didnt have before we made our house there. I sadly cannot say that I have helped all of Mexico, though I have donated to the Red Cross there for the victims of Hurricane Stan. I cant help how you percieve me, I am just stating my beliefs.

Is it easier to learn spanish before learning how to speak Italian? I am going to be taking spanish classes, and I really want to be fluent in Italian (the school I'm going to doesn't offer Italian). My question is: is it easier to learn spanish and THEN learn italian, or can I just learn both languages at the same time? Thanks so much! :)

Will learning Spanish help me learn Italian and Portuguese? Hello, I am a high school sophomore and am currently taking a Spanish class. I want to become a doctor who travels to different countries, and I heard that by learning Spanish, the other Latin-based languages will be easier to learn. Is this true? If so, I definitely want to try learning those languages too, but I should take it one language at a time...right? Any information will be useful to me, thanks in advance!

Would learning Portuguese conflict with learning Spanish? I'm learning Spanish now, and will be taking classes in my college. At some point I would like to go to South America, maby to study abroad. I really want to go to Rio, but I know Portuguese is spoken there. I'm not sure if I should also learn Brazilian Portuguese, or if that would mess up my Spanish since they are similar.
Question about Antigua Guatemala and learning Spanish? Lately, I've been reading that people have been going to Antigua to learn Spanish. Does anyone know why Antigua has become a popular destination to learn Spanish? Where does it place in terms as a top destination to learn Spanish?
When learning Spanish, how much would reading newspaper articles help? When learning Spanish, how much do you feel reading newspaper articles would help, and at what point would you suggest attempting to do so? Can it be helpful to a beginner with a basic knowledge, or is it something you should only start seriously attempting to do when you have attained a good intermediate knowledge? Thanks
What is the best and least expensive Spanish learning software? Even though I have studied Spanish in school for about 2 years I still cannot speak it as fluently as I would have hoped. So i decided to teach myself using Spanish learning software. The only problem is, is that most software is either poorly made or extremely expensive for a 16 year old. What software have you had success with that you would recommend for someone who is not a complete beginner and would like to perfect their conversational Spanish.

Does anyone have any tips or advice on learning Spanish? Please I've been trying to teach myself for at least a year now. I took a class and I didn't like it because the teacher talked in Spanish the whole time and refused to speak English at anytime. What is the best software program?
How long should I be spending on each chapter when learning Spanish...? I'm using Teach Yourself Spanish, and each chapter on average introduces about 15-20 news words and 4 or 5 new gramatical concepts, and 1 or 2 irregular verbs. Obviously, everyone is different, but what would be considered a resonable amount of time to spend on each chapter before you had it fairly well memorised? Thanks
What are some websites to use when learning Spanish? I currently speak English and French fluently, and I've decided to pick up another language for my major/my career. I am hoping that I can teach it to myself at home, instead of relying solely on classes to teach me. How can I teach myself Spanish -- quickly & inexpensively?
Is learning Spanish in school good or bad ? Some people think it's a bad idea because then people will be catering to illegal immigrants even more. I myself think it's a great idea, being bilingual is most useful in today's workforce. I know,I have friends who are citizens who cannot speak English. I know, back in the 80's when I was in high school,a foreign language was required.I took French. Well,I had the opportunity to learn the little French I know from a native speaker. The language they teach in school is not really enough to hold a conversation. For example who in the world says "La plume de ma tante est sur la table?" That is so textbook.
Where is free help with learning Spanish online? I am an elementary education major and even though it is not required that I take Spanish, I am going to in the fall and in high school, I took two years of Spanish and remember NOTHING. I just remember me cheating and it being hard. So, I'd really like to study up before I take the course. I would mostly benefit from a learning game that was meant for a child. But, I will take any FREE help I can get. =XoXo=
what correspondent courses for learning spanish? hello i really really want to learn spanish fluently thinking of pod-casts spanish courses and stuff like that i don't want to go aboard to latin america and i live too remote to go to class and learn so im thinking online course or something.
Is there anyone who was interested in learning Spanish until the illegal immigration became a big issue? What were your motivations at first, and why did you change? I would like to encourage you to keep your vision alive. Ignore those on both sides. Some hispanics feel the need to taunt others and say mean spirited things. Some radicals go beyond the issue and start calling hispanics racist names. Ignore them both. Sort through the mess and keep your dream alive. I was affected by all the hate going back and forth. Just like a cold can be caught, so can hate. Just let it go because better things lie in store for you. Spanish is beautiful, for it is a language of progression. It was not only spoken by Spain but by Africans then Arabs, centuries before it came across the Atlantic. No Latin group can claim direct ownership or a monopoly on the language. The Dominicans from the Dominican Republic are the only Latin group who can feel special because the Spaniards stayed there due it its gold and natural resources. Illegal immigration is not your issue, so let it go!

Does anyone know any good sites for learning spanish at an intermediate level? I am an intermediate spanish learner. I have a pretty large vocabulary, but I need to work on becoming fluent. Does anyone know of any good sites that have things like flash cartoons (or something) that are made for intermediate spanish learners? All of the cartoons I have found speak too fast for me, because they aren't made for students.
Question about my 21 month old son learning spanish? Hi All, My son has a new daycare teacher (its a home daycare) that speaks mainly spanish. She has been teaching my son spanish words. I know that this will be good for him in the long run, but I would rather him wait another year or 2 before he is taught spanish. We speak english only in our house. I just feel like because he is still learning to speak english, the spanish learning should wait. Am I being paranoid? I just don't want him coming home and pointing at something, and saying what it is in spanish, but not knowing what it is in English. Is it too early for him?
Has anyone else noticed this about learning Spanish after learning French? Has anyone else noticed this about learning Spanish after learning French? I have to learn either Spanish or an East Asian language to be more competitive for med school, and everyone tells me I should learn Spanish for more practically reasons (I live in Cali), but since I took French in High School and college that language has become so natural that it has made leaning a similar language like Spanish difficult. There is an interference of old information with this new type of information I am trying to acquire. I noticed this too when I decided to pick up Russian on the side. Verbally, that language is so easy for me to learn! Why is that? And what should I do? My mother is worried that Mandarin or Japanese will be too much for me to learn with my other studies because they are so different. I am worried that I will do poorly in Spanish and not retain the language, because the language is too similar to French. Has anyone else had this problem? Oh. it is not just learning the language it is pronunciation too. My Spanish sounds horrible.
